- Description
- This intensive treatment service is provided in a specialized classroom setting using small class sizes with treatment and education provided by a multi-disciplinary team. The service helps children/youth who are unable to benefit from a regular school program because of their behavioural, emotional, and learning disorders that interfere with academic progress. Parents must participate in treatment planning and family counselling and therapy.
Children aged 6-14 (Grades 1-8) years attend classrooms at the Mountainview site or a transition classroom at a community school (Grades 4-8) and youth aged 14-18 attend classrooms at six different secondary schools throughout the Niagara Region. The length of stay is determined by the individual treatment needs. The goal is to assist children/youth to improve their academic, behavioural and social competencies in order to re-integrate into the regular school setting and provide parents with the skills to support their children in coping with individual challenges. - Eligibility
- Children and youth six to 18 years experiencing severe behavioral/learning difficulties. Children usually have one or more mental health or behavioural difficulties such as Tourette's Syndrome and ADHD. Adolescents must be willing to attend the program located in Community Secondary Schools.
