Rabies

Safe Water

  • inspect public recreational water facilities (pools, spas, splashpads etc.)
  • monitor and conduct water sampling of public beaches
  • provide private well water sample bottles, facilitate testing of private well water and assist in the interpretation of well water sample results
  • inspect small drinking water systems
  • respond to adverse water quality incident reports for municipal water systems and other public water supplies

Septic Systems and Planning Activities

  • land severances and other planning activity applications in relation to private septic systems and wells
  • review of building permit applications and issuing of permits for private septic systems
  • review of building addition applications (including pools) in relation to private septic systems
  • accessing private septic system records

Smoke Free Ontario Act

  • enforces the SFOA and the Durham Region Smoke and Vape By-Law 28-2019
  • inspects tobacco and vapour retailer premises
  • restricts youth access to tobacco and vapour products
  • investigates complaints related to stores selling tobacco and vapes to minors
  • investigates smoking and vaping complaints in all enclosed workplaces and public places
  • discloses retailer/owner convictions related to tobacco sales offences and vapour product sales offences and Durham Region Smoke and Vape By-Law on Durham.ca website
