Low-Income Energy Assistance Program (LEAP)
- Description
One-time financial assistance
- for low-income customers with up to $650 in emergency assistance for non-electric heating homes, and $780 if the home is heated with electricity
- for emergency situations only and is not meant to provide with ongoing help to pay bills
- grant is credited directly toward energy bill
- all decisions can be appealed
- cannot receive more money than is owed on energy bill
- Eligibility
- Residents of Durham Region who are Whitby Hydro (Elexicon) and OPUC Networks customers; must be the utility holder; disconnection notice is not required to be eligible; Hydro One, Elexicon (Veridian) and Enbridge customers in Durham Region call United Way Simcoe Muskoka LEAP Hotline 1-855-487-5327

- Must be pre-screened by telephone before in-person interview for assistance; documents required for interview include proof of lease or mortgage, proof of household income and recent bank statement
