The Wasa-Nabin Program is a self-development initiative aimed at Urban Indigenous youth (ages 13-18) who are at-risk or facing challenges in their lives. This program helps youth develop essential skills such as goal setting, leadership, and decision-making to promote healthier lifestyles and personal success. Through culturally appropriate activities and support services, Wasa-Nabin encourages positive growth in interpersonal relationships, mental well-being, and physical health, ultimately empowering youth to overcome challenges and make informed choices for their futures.
Objective:
To support at-risk Indigenous youth by providing culturally relevant resources and services that build leadership, resilience, and personal empowerment. The program focuses on improving interpersonal skills, enhancing self-esteem, and guiding youth to make healthy, informed decisions that lead to successful futures.
Program Services:
- Youth Justice - Street Wolf: Advocacy and support for youth in the justice system, helping them navigate legal challenges.
- Homework Club: Academic support to help youth succeed in their studies.
- Movie Nights: Social events promoting community building and cultural engagement.
- Medicine Walks: Cultural outings focused on learning about traditional medicines and their healing properties.
- Cooking & Baking Workshops: Skill-building activities that promote healthy eating and life skills.

- Social Support: General emotional and social assistance to help youth navigate daily challenges.
- Youth in Care: Specialized support for youth currently in or transitioning out of the foster care system.
- Healthy Eating & Physical Development: Activities and workshops that promote physical well-being and nutrition.

Participant Services:
- One-on-One Support & Advocacy: Personalized assistance to address individual needs.
- Drop-In Services: Ongoing access to program services and support as needed.
- ASSP Eligibility: Youth enrolled in the Alternative Secondary School Program are eligible for additional services.
Outreach Services:
- Mental Health & Disability Advocacy: Support and resources to help youth access mental health services and navigate disability challenges.
- Camp Connections: Opportunities for youth to connect with positive role models and peers through camp programs.
- Eligibility
- Open to Indigenous youth ages 13-18 who are at-risk, including those dealing with justice involvement, mental health challenges, or other personal difficulties.
Youth in care or transitioning out of the foster system are also eligible for support.
Youth who are enrolled in the Alternative Secondary School Program (ASSP) are eligible for additional services.
