The Health Protection and Investigation department conducts routine and complaint inspections of food premises, recreational water facilities, personal services settings (such as hair/nail salons and tattoo shops), child care facilities and Long Term Care, Retirement and Group homes to ensure compliance with applicable provincial regulations and guidelines. They also provide the following services:

• Monitors and conducts surveillance for Lyme disease and West Nile virus
• Responds to enteric and foodborne outbreaks in the community and institutions
• Animal bite investigations for the control of rabies
• Investigate and assess reports of environmental health hazards in partnership with other responsible agencies
