Property Tax Compassionate Appeal Program
- Description
Compassionate appeals are for people who wish to receive a reduction in property taxes due to extreme sickness or poverty. Applications are heard by the Assessment Review Board and are for the current year only.
- Eligibility
- Open to all property owners in Hamilton who are experiencing extreme sickness or poverty.
- Application Process
- All appeals must be completed by the last business day of February the year following the year under appeal. Applicants must complete a financial statement which is available on the website. The Assessment Review Board may request copies of all bank statements, mortgage statements, notice of assessment from CRA, and utility bills. Appeals due to extreme sickness require an Attending Physician's Statement which is available on the website and must be completed by a doctor.
