Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Care Centres


Description

Provides comprehensive and supportive care for anyone who has experienced sexual assault and/or domestic violence. A specially trained sexual assault nurse examiner (SANE) will provide services, including:

  • collection and recording of physical evidence
  • antibiotics and antiviral medications to prevent infections and HIV
  • emergency contraceptive pill to prevent pregnancy
  • information and referral to community resources
  • supportive counselling
  • follow-up medical care and counselling
Eligibility
Open to all children, adolescents, women, transgender persons, and men who have experienced sexual assault and/or domestic violence.
Application Process
Visit the hospital emergency department and ask for the sexual health nurse examiner (SANE). Children and youth 17 years of age and under: McMaster Children's Hospital Anyone 13 years of age and over: Hamilton General Hospital or Juravinski Hospital
