Description

Free income tax clinic for low-income individuals and families

  • trained volunteers prepare and file income tax returns
Eligibility
General public/All persons who meet the following income criteria:
Income must not exceed:
  • $40,000 for a single person
  • $55,000 for two persons
  • $60,000 for three persons
  • $65,000 for four persons
  • $70,000 for five persons
  • An additional $5,000 is added to the above for each additional person

Interest income must not exceed $1,200

Volunteers only complete returns for simple tax situations. A tax situation is simple if an individual has no income or if their income comes from these sources:
  • employment
  • pension
  • benefits, such as Canada Pension Plan, Old Age Security, disability insurance, employment insurance, and social assistance
  • Registered Retirement Savings Plans (RRSPs)
  • scholarships, fellowships, bursaries, or grants
  • interest (under $1,200)

Volunteers are not expected to answer complex tax questions. If a taxpayer needs information that is beyond the volunteer's expertise, they can find more information on the website or contact the Canada Revenue Agency

Application Process
  • Virtual, drop-off, and in-person service (by appointment or walk-in)
  • First come, first serve
  • Please use the thrift store entrance to access the clinic
  • Call 613-522-0754 to make an appointment
  • Main clinic location is on the second floor and is not accessible, but a second accessible location on Water Street is available; call 343-370-8657 to book an appointment at the accessible site
