Transitional Housing for Newcomers to Halton


Description

Program introduces a temporary housing option for eligible newcomers in the community

  • Burlington based apartments and townhouses for families and individuals who are homeless or at risk of homelessness
  • Provides temporary accommodation while residents search for permanent housing in Halton
  • Placement is up to 12 weeks with a possibility of extension
  • Rental Agreement is signed every three months with possibility of extension to up to one year
  • Offers a wide range of services, including counseling, and referrals to other assistance programs
Eligibility
  • homeless or at risk of homelessness
  • whole family or a sole support person with children
  • have explored other accommodation alternatives
  • a legal immigrant (Permanent Resident – PR Card Holder, Refugee Claimant, Convention Refugee) or Canadian Citizen
  • at least one adult member of the family should have a level 4+ proficiency in English
  • secured source of income
Application Process
  • Call Halton Region at 311 or 905-825-6000 to discuss shelter options and referral to HMC if there are available vacancies
  • HMC will not accept applications directly from clients, referrals come directly from Halton Region
