The Lot Maintenance By-law together with the Parks By-law and Property Standards By-law, bans feeding wildlife in Oakville

The town's Wildlife Conflict Guidelines (pdf) provides detailed information on how to handle various wildlife conflict situations, who is responsible and preventive measures

Sick or Injured Wildlife

The Oakville and Milton Humane Society 905-845-1551 or the Toronto Wildlife Centre 416-631-0662 may be able to assist in some situations, however, neither is mandated by the town to manage these situations and due to the volume of calls received by both of these organizations it may not be possible to address every situation

  • if wildlife disease is suspected, Canadian Cooperative Wildlife Health Centre can diagnose at 1-866-673-4781
  • if a potentially rabid animal is encountered, dead or alive, and it has been in contact with humans, contact the Region of Halton Health Department at 905-825-6000
  • reports on animal cruelty to wild animals should be reported to the Oakville & Milton Humane Society at 905-845-1551
  • other potential legal violations concerning wildlife, including intentional poisoning of wildlife, should be directed to the local Ministry of Natural Resources office (Aurora) at 905-713-7400, except in the case of migratory birds
  • migratory birds suspected violations should be reported to CWS Wildlife Enforcement at 1-800-668-6767 or [email protected]

Dead Wildlife

Generally, property owners are responsible for the disposal of dead animals found on their property

  • for dead wildlife on public property or roads, contact the Humane Society of Oakville, Milton & Halton at 905-845-1551 for removal
  • Halton Region does not remove wildlife, however Public Health will provide general information at 905-825-6000
