An early intervention program that provides group supports for children and youth who have witnessed violence, by offering opportunities to share their feelings regarding the abuse and violence they have witnessed in a creative and supportive environment.

Emergency crisis line and response team to assist individuals who have serious mental health issues and who are in crisis. Also supports caregivers in the management of acute mental health concerns and crisis. Intake can be initiated by individuals directly or through their family members and caregivers. Referrals are accepted from community agencies and professionals.

An emergency shelter for women, with or without children, who are experiencing family violence, abuse, and/or human trafficking. Offers emergency shelter, a safe environment, meals, and access to support workers.

Provides anonymous and confidential crisis support, safety planning, information, and referrals for women that have experienced abuse or violence.

Provides consultations and assessments around issues of child maltreatment, including physical, sexual, and emotional abuse and neglect. Care provided includes physical or medical assessments, consultations to service providers and health care providers, and counselling and supportive services for children and youth and their families following exposure to maltreatment.

Provides comprehensive and supportive care for anyone who has experienced sexual assault and/or domestic violence. A specially trained sexual assault nurse examiner (SANE) will provide services, including:

• collection and recording of physical evidence
• antibiotics and antiviral medications to prevent infections and HIV
• emergency contraceptive pill to prevent pregnancy
• information and referral to community resources
• supportive counselling
• follow-up medical care and counselling

Provides care by clinicians and psychiatrists who assess and treat patients with acute mental health problems who have presented to the emergency department. Works in partnership with other inpatient and outpatient mental health services to assist individuals in finding the right level of care.

24 hour confidential crisis line offering support for individuals experiencing domestic violence. Offers emergency counselling, crisis intervention, safety planning, and referral to community services or other emergency shelters.

Provides telephone intervention to individuals experiencing crisis.

Victim Crisis Assistance Ontario - On-site early intervention and crisis intervention

Victim Quick Response Program+ (VQRP+) - Program of last resort where no other available private or public resource is available. Assistance with emergency expenses related to the eligible incident, may include home safety, accommodation, meals, transportation, basic necessities, dependent care costs, counselling, traditional Indigenous health services, cellular phones, vision care, dental care, aids for victims with disabilities, interpretation services, crime scene cleanup, government/medical documents and funeral expenses

• additional assistance for victims of human trafficking includes storage locker, tattoo removal, and treatment at a recovery facility
• no direct reimbursements are made to victims for the supports listed above
• financial support is also available for victims who sustained serious physical injuries during a crime and for parents or spouses of homicide victims

A police unit specifically mandated to monitor and assist with investigations involving hate crimes.

Provides a safe environment for individuals who experience a mental health and/or substance use crisis and who do not require a hospital stay. Confidential and free services are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Services provided:

• Telephone crisis assessment, intervention, and support
• In-person crisis counselling
• Short-term crisis stabilization bed stay (including police designated Safe Beds)
• Group counselling
• Peer support drop-in group

24 hour confidential telephone support and crisis intervention. Provides referrals to local community supports and inpatient programs, including the Good Shepherd Barrett Centre for Crisis Support.

Outreach workers connect clients experiencing chronic or episodic homelessness to immediate support, including shelter, food, and income support, and engage with those experiencing longer-term homelessness, providing assistance to rapid re-housing and housing first support.

In partnership with the City of Hamilton Public Health Unit.

Offers text message and web chat support for women experiencing abuse and homelessness. Provides confidential emotional support, practical advice, safety planning, and referrals to other local services.

The Family Support program provides support, information, early intervention, and referral to other services for parents with youth ages 12 to 17 who are experiencing parenting challenges or parent/child conflicts. This is a strength-based, family-centered service offered in individual and group formats. This program is delivered on- and off-site throughout Hamilton, Burlington, and area.

Provides a Full-Continuum Model of Care, planned and designed according to needs of the patients

• provides early detection and early intervention
• removes barriers and the unnecessary challenges for patients and families trying to navigate a complex system

Adult Mental Health Programs & Services:

• provides a continuum of care from assessment or consultation, to specialized treatment supports for clients with complex and serious mental health disorders

Mental Health Inpatient Unit:

• a 19 bed unit serving patient 18 years of age and older with a focus on short-term crisis intervention, psychiatric assessment/treatment and stabilization

Innovative Programs and Services:

• Prioritizing Health through Acute Stabilization and Transition (PHAST) is a made-in-Burlington service delivery innovation at the heart of a broader Full-Continuum Model for Mental Health and Addictions services
• Program of Assertive Community Treatment (PACT) is a community outreach program, serving residents of the Region of Halton

Psychiatric Emergency Services:

• offers emergency assessments, care coordination and a follow up plan of safe care for any individual in a psychiatric crisis situation

Urgent Care & Outpatient:

• a community-based crisis alternative for rapid consultation/assessment, medication/symptom review and stabilization follow up for up to six weeks for adults 18-65 years whose psychological or psychiatric distress is escalating and requires prompt intervention

Youth & Adolescent Mental Health Programs & Services

• Child and Adolescent Psychiatric (CAP) provides early intervention support to children/youth under the age of 18 years
• Youth Early Intervention (YEI) program is youth-centred and breaks down barriers that youth encounter when seeking mental health and/or substance use services

The regional sexual assault and domestic violence treatment centre for Halton

• provides confidential, comprehensive, trauma-specific care and treatment
• services can be provided with or without police involvement
• offers choice of care

Team is made up of Registered Nurses (RN), Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANEs) and physicians who provide care on an emergency basis

• RNs work with paediatricians when caring for children
• a registered social worker is also available

Offers services for:

• acute care for an assault that has occurred within the last 12 days
• non-acute care for an assault that has occurred more than 12 days ago
• follow-up care
