Schools programs

• EngageMENt 'male ally' program is a conversation-based 4-week program led by a male facilitator that guides male students through discussion around popular and sports culture, through a gender lens, and discusses what 'healthy masculinity' means, wrapping up by planning an experiential or service learning initiative (participants may receive up to 15 volunteer hours toward their Community Involvement requirement)

In Ontario, everyone, including members of the public and professionals, is required by law to report suspected child abuse or neglect

• The duty to report applies to any child who is, or appears to be, under 16 years old
• If you have reasonable grounds to suspect that a child may be in need of protection, you must report it right away
• You do not need proof, if you are concerned, it is okay to call

• offers information to help protect seniors and encourages older adults and their loved ones to contact police when abuse or safety concerns arise
• provides guidance on recognizing possible signs of elder abuse such as unexplained injuries, fear or withdrawal, poor hygiene, malnutrition or unusual financial activity
• connects callers to additional support such as the Senior Safety Line for confidential advice

Provides investigation and support for human trafficking cases in Halton Region, along with education on recognizing trafficking and reporting concerns

• investigates situations involving force, coercion, deception or control for sexual or labour exploitation
• responds to reports of suspected trafficking and encourages 9-1-1 calls when someone may be in immediate danger
• offers guidance on recognizing signs of grooming, control, restricted communication, physical injuries, secrecy and other trafficking indicators
• provides education on vulnerabilities that increase trafficking risk, including unstable housing, lack of support, past abuse, substance dependency, newcomer status or language barriers
• connects victims and the public to the Canadian Human Trafficking Hotline for 24/7 confidential, multilingual assistance and referrals to supports or law enforcement
• collaborates with community agencies through the Halton Collaborative Against Human Trafficking to support victims in accessing care and services

Works with individuals encountering mental health and/or substance use challenges that require short-term stabilization following a recent hospitalization(s), require immediate mental health or substance use support, are facing a high risk of relapse, or who have active concerns related to risk of harm to others * provides telephone support and mobile intervention to persons who are in crisis and have a mental health concern

• mobile team of mental health professionals (Crisis Intervention Specialist) and specially trained, plain-clothed police officers may also visit to help those in crisis remain safe in their own environment and connect with ongoing care
• team assesses and triages the request and makes decisions to attend where there is evidence of escalating mental health symptoms, potential for aggression or violence, risk of harm, a vulnerable individual involved, or the potential need to attend hospital
• help is available Mon to Sun, 24 hours a day
• not an emergency response unit and those requesting visits must have the ability to wait for up to 24 hours

Adult Mental Health Programs & Services:

Mental Health Inpatient Unit:

• a 19 bed unit serving patient 18 years of age and older with a focus on short-term crisis intervention, psychiatric assessment/treatment and stabilization

Innovative Programs and Services:

• Prioritizing Health through Acute Stabilization and Transition (PHAST) is a made-in-Burlington service delivery innovation at the heart of a broader Full-Continuum Model for Mental Health and Addictions services
• Program of Assertive Community Treatment (PACT) is a community outreach program, serving residents of the Region of Halton

Psychiatric Emergency Services:

• offers emergency assessments, care coordination and a follow up plan of safe care for any individual in a psychiatric crisis situation

Urgent Care & Outpatient:

• a community-based crisis alternative for rapid consultation/assessment, medication/symptom review and stabilization follow up for up to six weeks for adults 18-65 years whose psychological or psychiatric distress is escalating and requires prompt intervention

Youth & Adolescent Mental Health Programs & Services

• Child and Adolescent Psychiatric (CAP) provides early intervention support to children/youth under the age of 18 years
• Youth Early Intervention (YEI) program is youth-centred and breaks down barriers that youth encounter when seeking mental health and/or substance use services

Provides services to women and their children living in Wellington County who have been or are in an abusive relationship, or have experienced childhood sexual abuse/incest, recent or past sexual assault, human trafficking, harassment and/or stalking.

Provincial telephone and online (chat) crisis counselling, emotional support, information and referrals to emergency shelters, legal information and community services, as well as culturally appropriate resources for women who have experienced abuse
