Family Court Support Worker Program -- Facilitates a victim's understanding of and passage through the family court system. Support provided includes:

• information on the family court process
• assistance in preparing for family court proceedings (documenting history of abuse, accessing Legal Aid)
• debriefing with clients following family court appearances
• referral to specialized services and supports in the community
• safety planning
• court accompaniment to proceedings when appropriate

Women do not have to stay at the shelter to access any of the free, confidential services. The goal is to provide safety, support and empowerment to vulnerable women, Two-spirit, gender queer, trans and non-binary individuals in the community.

Mental health, addictions and situational support. Mental health counsellors available to assist individuals in meeting non-emergency, non-medical urgent needs for problem solving, goal setting. Linking to appropriate community supports and bridging to longer term resources. Follow-up services provided as needed.

Work to improve the quality of life for individuals experiencing mental, emotional and addictions challenges through the delivery of services including information and referral, urgent support services, residential services, counselling services, employment services and justice services.

A walk-in counselling program offering quick access to therapy services for adults who may be experiencing high stress or emotional upset. This program enables individuals to see counsellors at their decided moment of need and reduces wait times. One session is often sufficient, however, walk-in counselling may be used more than once.

A non-profit organization offering confidential credit counselling at low or no cost.

A free and confidential harm reduction program that offers sterile injection and disposal supplies to people who inject drugs.

  • A safe place to get information about how to be safe, get connected and use substances supervised by harm reduction staff. Paramedics are onsite to provide immediate intervention in the event of an overdose.

A prevention program for families with children of all ages who may be at risk for substance use problems, depression, violence, delinquency and school failure.

The Strengthening Families for the Future program is designed specifically to reduce risk factors, build individual resilience and enhance family protective factors. These strategies help prevent children from developing problems with alcohol, other drugs or mental health concerns.

Strengthening Families is a powerful family change program because it involves the members of the family. The goals of the program are to

• reduce children's or adolescents intention to use drugs and alcohol as well as to reduce behavior problems
• increase children's resilience and life skills which include communicating, resisting peer pressure, recognizing their feelings and solving problems
• increase positive and effective parenting skills
• improve family communication

This program is run in the communities of St Catharines, Welland, Niagara Falls and Fort Erie. Dinner is provided at all sites

Non-profit and charitable counselling, support and referral service for women-identified individuals experiencing addiction or affected by the addiction of another.

WARM provides individual support and support groups where people with similar shared experiences can relate to one another and receive support. WARM also offers education al tools and coping strategies to help contribute to healthy individuals, families and communities.

All WARM groups are influenced by a feminist, trauma informed, harm reduction model, utilizing tools from CBT and DBT. WARM provides the opportunity for participants to stay at home and maintain families and employment while accessing counselling and support.

Personal Support Recovery Programs: Individual Support, Women's Support Groups, Workshops, Information and Referrals, Educational Resource Sharing Library

A one year transitional housing program open to men, women and their children with a focus on families who are homeless due to issues with poverty, mental health, domestic violence, family breakdown and/or physical disability.

During their stay residents are given support through individual meetings with a support worker, support groups and a wide range of practical knowledge and skills training workshops.

Some examples of support groups provided are: life skills, self-esteem, healthy relationships, grief and loss, women's group, men's group and advocacy. After residents move out, they are guided towards ongoing support programs available in the Niagara Region.

Many continue with supports through outreach programs while transitioning to the next stage which helps to ensure housing retention, a stable safe environment and connection to resources and services.

One unit is accessible and designed for individuals with disabilities.

Assists women who have experienced abuse during the course of their lives. Abuse may have occurred during a past relationship or it may be an ongoing concern in a current relationship.

Community Support Workers meet with participants and offer supports including safety planning, referrals to emergency shelters, advocacy, and accompaniment.

Operates from a feminist perspective which includes empowerment, re-affirmation, support, and advocacy, while maintaining a non-judgmental approach.

Support services include:

• Short-term, supportive counselling for women in the community
• Development of safety strategies or plans for women and their children
• Provision of information on rights, options, and available services
• Referrals or linking women to appropriate services
• Cultural interpretation
• Advocacy with other agencies (i.e. legal, financial, etc.)

Not a crisis service.

A walk-in service where you can find legal and non-legal information about separation and divorce and related family law issues, family justice services, alternative forms of dispute resolution, local community resources and court processes. The program is run cooperatively between the Ministry of the Attorney General, Legal Aid Ontario and AXIS Family Mediation.

Individuals can speak with a court customer service representative, an advice lawyer (for those not in court that day), and an Information and Referral Coordinator (IRC). Each of which are available at designated times to help you understand your family court/family law related needs and to make further referrals to appropriate services.

A community based program funded by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services which provides individual and group counselling to enable women to become non-victims of physical or mental abuse. Member agency of Support Services Network for Male Survivors in Ontario (west region)

Assists people and families from the time of diagnosis with a terminal illness, through to end-of-life care and bereavement. Programs and services are free of cost and support people in their homes, in the community and in the hospice residence.

Care at Home: Working with primary care providers as one team, medical, emotional and social supports help people live well, for as long as possible in their own home, while supporting caregivers.

Care at Hospice: A 10-bedroom home, providing care, compassion and dignity for people at end of life and their families.

Care in the Community:

Wellness Programs: Programs such as Day Hospice focus on helping people and caregivers live well.

Bereavement Support: Children, teenagers and adults explore their feelings of grief and loss in a safe and supportive space. Participation is not dependent on their loved one having been a Hospice Niagara client.

Education and Consultation: programs and resources to help family caregivers learn different strategies to cope and care for themselves, while they care for others.

Individual and parent-child counselling program for mothers and their children who have experienced woman abuse in their families. Individualized program where the work is done with moms, children and a counsellor in a private setting. Also provides safety planning and referrals to other services when appropriate.

A 10 week simultaneous support group program for children and their mothers who have experienced woman abuse in their families. Groups are offered throughout the region.

A low fee counselling ministry, providing aid for individuals experiencing life crises, including marriage and family breakdown, depression, grief, anger, co-dependency, unplanned pregnancy, parenting and post-abortion trauma. Group and individual programs are offered. The Centre does not discriminate in any way, and all services are confidential.

Serves anyone reporting to an emergency department in the Niagara Region.

Provides 24 hour emergency medical care and crisis intervention to all individuals (male and female) who have been sexually assaulted or victims of domestic violence within the last 12 days. Services are provided through a specialized team sensitive to the needs of survivors. Options of care include emotional support, prophylactic treatment of sexually transmitted diseases, HIV post exposure prophylaxis, pregnancy prevention, and the collection of forensic evidence to assist in the legal process. Victims of domestic violence have options of medical treatment, documentation of injuries, safety planning and police involvement.

For emergency treatment, go to any emergency department in the Niagara Region. The Sexual Assault/Domestic Violence Treatment Program nurse will be paged.

Counselling Program: Offers short-term trauma counselling to recent victims (within 2 years of the assault/abuse) of sexual violence or intimate partner violence to individuals 16 years of age and older. A social worker is available to answer questions and/or determine eligibility for counselling services every Wednesday morning between 9 am-12 noon. Call for information.

Delivers infant health and safety education to communities across Canada. Provides resources and grief counselling services for all infant deaths including SIDS, miscarriage and stillbirth. Provides public education, awareness and supports Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) related research.

Baby's Breath provides SIDS risk reduction information to new or expectant parents and promotes health and safety for all infants in the hope of reducing the rate of infant death in Canada.
